Tamil Nadu Dr. J.Jayalalithaa Fisheries University, Nagapattinam in collaboration
with ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research, Hyderabad organised a 5 Day
ICAR-NAARM sponsored Off-Campus Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on
“Competency Enhancement in Agricultural Research and Education for the
Faculty of TNJFU” at the University Headquarters from 04.10.2021 to 08.10.2021.
Dr. G. Sugumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNJFU, Nagapattinam delivered the presidential
address with a special note on the recent and innovative technology developments in
teaching, skills and abilities to be developed by the teaching faculty to cope up with the
developments and demands in the frontier areas of fisheries sector. Dr.Ch. Srinivasa
Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad inaugurated the programme and pointed out
key mentions on improvisation of fish production/livelihood, opportunities for fisheries
research, strategies for pollution and chemical load reduction in fish ponds and to cope-
up with climate change, maintenance of water quality parameters in fish farming,
health benefits of fish consumption, combat malnutrition and finally the augmentation
of a fish value chain in domestic and international marketing of fish and fishery
products. Eminent speakers from NAARM, TNJFU, Central University, Thiruvarur,
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agricultural and Research Institute (PAJANCO) and
AIl India Radio, Karaikal will serve as resource persons. In this programme, 31
faculties from constituent colleges of TNJFU participated. Dr.M.Rajakumar, Director of
Extension Education and Programme Co-ordinator, TNJFU, Nagapattinam proposed vote
of thanks. Initially Dr.M.Balakrishnan, Principal Scientist and Programme Director,
ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad welcomed the gathering and briefed about the programme.
